| From a very early age, Selena stood out from others around her. As the youngest child of Abraham and Marcella Quintanilla, Selena life revolved around music. Her father decided to teach his children music "to keep them out of trouble" and because it was his first love. His restaurant, Papagayos, was broke and the family had to move. Now it was up to Selena y Los Dinos, her new band, to support the family. Selena said that things were tough because she knew the whole family was depending on the money that was made, but she knew she had to do it.
